Vocational rehabilitation depends on someone knowing exactly which occupations will still hold up tomorrow and which are already changing fundamentally. That judgement is getting harder now that artificial intelligence plays a role in more and more fields of work. That is exactly why I'm looking forward to the 2nd Arbeitsmarktdialog ("labour market dialogue") at the Berufsförderungswerk Bad Pyrmont ("vocational rehabilitation centre"), hosted by Olaf Gorniak and his team.

What the day is about

The focus is the topic "Berufliche Rehabilitation im Wandel - Wie Künstliche Intelligenz Berufe verändert" ("Vocational rehabilitation in transition: how artificial intelligence is changing occupations"). The Arbeitsmarktdialog is aimed at representatives of the German Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung), the employers' liability insurance associations (Berufsgenossenschaften), and the Federal Employment Agency together with the local job centres: precisely the institutions that decide, day to day, which occupations people are placed into after rehabilitation. The day centres on a structured exchange about employment histories, rehabilitation and participation in working life, complemented by a JOBMESSE, a job fair offering insights into how AI is used in the vocational training areas of the Berufsförderungswerk.

My role on the day

I'm giving a keynote on how artificial intelligence is changing occupations. What I'm particularly looking forward to is showing participants how the labour market is shifting right now and what that means concretely for the work of organisations like INN-tegrativ, for rehabilitation, qualification and placement alike. When occupational profiles change, the basis on which rehabilitation decisions are made changes with them. That is exactly the intersection my talk addresses.

My underlying stance stays the same as in every talk I give: artificial intelligence should strengthen people in their work, not replace them. The judgement of what an occupation needs to deliver tomorrow, and who can be qualified for it, remains a human task. AI can support that judgement; making it still has to remain with the people responsible.

Why this event matters to me

Bergmaier Innovations has been working with INN-tegrativ since earlier this year. In May 2026 I already had the opportunity to run AI seminars at INN-tegrativ, including on locally or offline operated AI and the data protection questions that come with it. Continuing that collaboration and now taking it to the larger stage of the Arbeitsmarktdialog feels like a good development to me: from a seminar room with individual trainers to a dialogue with the institutions that help shape the framework of vocational rehabilitation in Germany.

Thanks to Olaf Gorniak and the whole team at the Berufsförderungswerk Bad Pyrmont, and to INN-tegrativ gGmbH, the umbrella organisation for the vocational rehabilitation centres in northern Germany, for the invitation and for the hospitality I already experienced in May. A format like the Arbeitsmarktdialog, which brings the institutions of vocational rehabilitation together at one table while also making room for a job fair with hands-on insights, does not organise itself. It takes a team that actively drives and carries that exchange.
